Bangistan StillBangistan Movie Review

The subject of terrorism has been used in movies of Hollywood and Bollywood and even often the movies are found being churned out using this subject. Bollywood has made many a movies on terrorism and few of them been made as a satirical comedies such as Tere Bin Laden and Filmistaan. Well, the latest one Bangistan too walks on the similar lines. Let’s analyze whether this satirical comedy has any potential to impress the viewers or it will go flat at the box office.

The film starts with the introduction of a factious country called Bangistan that is divided into two parts – North Bangistan (occupied by the Muslims) and South Bangistan (occupied by the Hindus). The people of Banistan strongly believe that violence is the only way to bring peace in the world and this is the reason that they are always at war with each other. 13th World Religious Conference is going to be held in Poland and the religious leaders of Bangistan – Imaam (Tom Alter) and Shankaracharya (Shiv Subramaniam) start discussion on this conference. There comes Hafeez Bin Ali aka Harold (Riteish Deshmukh), who leaves his call center job and has now been handpicked by Al-Kaam Tamaam’s chief to become a suicide bomber for this conference. He changes his identity and disguises himself as a Hindu named Ishwarchand Sharma. Then comes Pravin Chaturvedi (Pulkit Samrat), a struggling actor, who happens to be a devout Hindu. He too gets handpicked by the Hindu religious leader of Maa Ka Dal. His duty too is to blow up himself at the conference. He too disguises himself as Allah Rakha showing himself as a Muslim to hide his identity. The two bump into each other at the airport in Poland. They also become neighbors. Soon they become close friends. But then their motives get revealed. What happens then is what forms the rest of Bangistan’s story.

The film is a big failure from all aspects. The main culprits are two – writing and direction apart from other departments of the movie as well. The script carries unlimited flaws and the blame needle lands on the writers – Puneet Krishna, Sumit Purohit, Karan Anshuman. The poor direction by Karan Anshuman cannot hold the viewers even for a moment. The film carries no weightage and energy to allure the viewers from the opening reel till the last frame. It has been targeted as a comedy, but you hardly find any in the film throughout. Editing is mundane. Music is simply boring. Cinematography is somewhat better.

Ritiesh Deshmukh is a brilliant actor and his comic timing is awesome, but in this film he seems to be struggling a lot to entertain the viewers. Pulkit Samrat is simply boring. He does not impress the viewers at all. Jacqueline Fernandez is limited to few scenes. She has been wasted. Other supporting cast is poor in their respective roles.

Bangistan Movie Review

Final Verdict:

Bangistan is the biggest failure. There is no entertainment in this film. It is highly recommended to skip it and watch something else instead.
