Well, the much-awaited Telugu movie ‘Basanti’ hits the screens with aplomb. The movie was being awaited hugely because of the fact that the film has been promoted and marketed heavily prior to the release. But will all this pay off at the box office in terms of business? Let’s explore the answer later in the review.

A production of Uma, Basanti has been directed by Chaitanya Dantuluri and stars Raja Goutham and Alisha Beig in main leads.

The film talks about Arjun (Raja Goutham) who is a middle class student. He has a good rapport with his family and friends and enjoys all this to the fullest. He is a carefree student who doesn’t like thinking over his future at all. While the wedding of his friend Abbas’ sister is going on, he bumps into a girl called Roshini (Alisha Beig). It is love at first sight for him. She is the daughter of Hyderabad Police Commissioner (Shayaji Shinde). An international convention is going to be conducted in the city and a terrorist gang has plans to attack it. The cops unearth the plot. The terrorists, while escaping from the police, enter into Basanti College Campus and they make the college students as hostages.

Well, there is no novelty in the story at all. This type of story has been seen on celluloid numerous times in the past. And a lot of movies are made on it as well in present time. Now talking on the script, it does not hold much value since it carries many flaws – the main being the slow pacing that occur at many points throughout the proceedings. The emotional quotient is missing also. Direction is average.

Editing is fine. Cinematography is not top notch but goes well nonetheless. Music by Mani Sharma is average. Dialogues, which prove to be the life of the films of these kinds, are plain average.

Raja Goutham delivers a fine job. Alisha Beig is first rate. Shayaji Shinde is in his elements. Rest of the cast too delivers nice job.

Final Verdict:

Basanti is flat in terms of interest quotient. With an old story and mundane script, the film does not offer anything lucrative to the viewers.
