Besharam, Ranbir Kapoor’s much awaited movie after the biggest blockbuster Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ , eventually hits the screens today. Ranbir Kapoor is without any doubt the superstar of today’s Hindi cinema screen. He has won the audiences over with his luminous and brilliant performances in superhits like Rockstar and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. He has proved that Bollywood cannot be ruled only by three Khans, but by himself as well. Kapoor is undoubtedly the biggest challenge and competitor to three Khans. The suave young guy catches the pulse of the audiences and the masses are looted by him from tip to toe. Since his last release was the biggest blockbuster, Reliance Entertainment gave Besharam a massive release with 4187 screens globally. With a director who made a blockbuster Dabangg, one can only expect another giant hit to follow. Therefore, massive expectations float on Ranbir’s latest release.
Comparisons have surely been made with Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and this has made the face value of Besharam really colossal. But the question is – whether Besharam would be able to surpass YJHD in terms of box office collections and audiences’ liking? The answer is vivid – not at all! Abhinav Kashyup could not succeed in making a film of Dabanng caliber and there are many other faults, which add their share in the failure of this flick. Read more later on in the review.
Besharam has not been promoted well and the songs, which often add values to Ranbir’s movies, could not generate any sparks before the release among the cinemagoers. Promos could not spark off attraction towards the film. Script is the main culprit of the film’s debacle. The opening of the film would surely be big since Ranbir’s star power and his last blockbuster force the people to come out. But the future of the film will be really difficult.
Babli (Ranbir Kapoor) is an orphan. He is a car mechanic and happens to be a full of life guy. With a heart of gold, he keeps supporting the orphanage by stealing the cars. A twist in tale happens when he unintentionally hurts his love, Tara (Pallavi Sharda) by stealing her vehicle and selling it to Chandel (Jaaved Jaaferi), who does a money laundering business. Now Babli makes a decision to undo the wrongs he has done in life. But will it be as easy as he thinks of?
Besharam is a masala entertainer. It does carry pleasurable moments, which get you glued to the screens. But the humor is not what allures you completely. At times, the humor seems forced and spoils your pleasures. As mentioned in earlier lines that script lacks the power. The love story between Ranbir and Pallavi does not catch your attention at all. The scenes between Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh (cops in the film) go over the top. But yes, there are sequences, which need to be applauded like the scenes between Kapoor family (Rishi, Neetu and Ranbir).Abhinav Kashyup has teamed up with Rajeev Barnwal to write the story and script of the film.
Action is not up to the mark at all. Sham Kaushal is the man behind the action direction. Editing is fine. Madhu Vannier’s cinematography is top notch – it catches your attention. Music by Ishq Bector, Lalit Pandit and Shree D is an ordinary piece of work. No track proved to be hummable or chartbuster. This is another weakness of the film.
Ranbir Kapoor is excellent in his job. He is a new superstar and the biggest competitor to three Khans on Bollywood front. Besharam is his show all the way. He looks classy with flashy costumes, brilliant acting prowess and dancing movements. Pallavi Sharda is adequate, but her chemistry with Ranbir doesn’t look good. Rishi Kapoor is fine. Neetu Singh is good to watch. Jaaved Jaaferi is excellent in negative role. Rest of the cast seems okay as well.
Final Verdict:
On the whole, Besharam is a below average masalathon. It ruins the gargantuan expectations of the viewers. A big disappointment! Not Recommended!
