Well, Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla’s much-awaited action thriller is out of the box now. The film is in theaters today. Gulaab Gang has now been offered to the viewers. But does it live up to the huge expectations of the masses or not is the big question, which is going to be answered later in the review. Soumik Sen’s Gulaab Gang pours light on the issues and the fighting of the women for their problems and injustice done to them in India. Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawala’s face-off too has well been in news since the outset and now you can watch it on screen.

Gulaab Gang is all about good versus evil – this is the ultimate core of the film revolving around entirely. A group of women takes up the issues such as dowry, violence, education, rape and more and they raise their voices for them. The movie takes twists and turns when the group leader Rajjo (Madhuri Dixit) land into brawls with none other than the scheming and shrewd politician Sumitra (Juhi Chawala).

As the name suggests, many start thinking that the flick might turn out to walk on parallel cinema, but the director smartly knowing the pulse of the viewers uses the time and tested formula of making this film a real masala by injecting high voltage action, drama and dances to fit to the taste of the audiences. The film is entirely women-centric and both the main characters protagonist and the antagonist are women. Besides, the entire story is about the issues of the women.

Story is alluring and catches the souls. Scripting is luminous, but does have its own demerits as well such as the first hour of the film does not offer much to extract joys from. There is no conflict in the same hour as well. Songs’ insertion looks out of place straightaway. Post interval portion catches the rhythm and viewers’ attention. But, the sequences and the plus points of the screenplay include the ones such as the women’s helplessness has been portrayed skillfully, the women’s fights for injustice, Juhi and Madhuri’s confrontation has been skillfully captured. For story and screenplay, Soumik Sen gets the credit and brownie points (apart from the blemishes in script). Execution is first-rate and catches the attention from the first reel to the last. Editing is fine. Music is just average. Cinematography is fine.

Madhuri Dixit displays her histrionics perfectly. She is a highly experienced actress and knows the art well – the same she reveals in this role of Rajjo. Juhi Chawla is simply awesome in villainous role. She does it for the first time and steals the show with perfection. Rest of the cast does fine also.

Final Verdict:

On the whole, Gulaab Gang is a well-executed film with power-packed performances by the protagonist and the antagonist. Leave the few blemishes of the screenplay aside,, just watch for Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla.
