Lootera finally hits the screens. The much-awaited film is dished out for you. It could be termed the major movie of both Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha’s careers. Both have done true commercial movies so far and this one is a period film that must have demanded big to deliver fabulous acting from both the stars. Vikramaditya Motwane, the man who has directed a great movie ‘Udaan’, returns with this classic flick. A lot is being expected from him to deliver a great content to watch on screen. As the film’s subject is really brilliant and sensitive, the expectations for brilliance on celluloid rise more and more. Let’s read on to figure out as to how much the man has succeeded in his efforts.

Lootera is based around American writer O. Henry’s short story ‘The Last Leaf’, but the good thing is that the writer, who is the director of the film as well, has not taken the ditto route to make the film rather he makes the modifications as per the taste of the Indian audiences. Ranveer Singh’s entry into the narrative is the main thing the writer has done so in addition to few more things to make it an Indian film. Lootera is a period film that is set in 1953’s era of West Bengal.

The movie is a well-executed film. Vikramaditya Motwane has made with real care. The era of 1953 has been presented with real class and finesse that the viewer starts treading along with the reels unzipping on screen.  The chemistry between Ranveer Singjh and Sonakshi Sinha is brilliant and eye popping. The film carries emotions, drama, sensitivities and romance. Above all the best thing of the movie is the 53’s ambience which has been created stupendously. The plot is attractive and grabs the eyeballs. Direction is fantastic – you get glued to the screens automatically and don’t want to go out of the theater.

There are few flaws in the script, but they are just minor and need not to be mentioned at all. The bygone era’s ambience is mesmerizing and magical. You take the film back home and this is the beauty of this cinematic venture.

In 1953’s West Bengal, Varun (Ranveer Singh) comes to Manikpur where he meets a zamindar and his family. The entire family gets mesmerized by the charms of this suave man. Pakhi (Sonakshi Sinha), the daughter of the zamindar, starts loving him. Soon, both Varun and Pakhi are involved in each other and the relationship gets passionate. But Varun disappears deceiving Pakhi and his family. Zamindar does not bear it and passes away with heart attack. Pakhi now wants to live life by forgetting Varun and arrives in Dalhousie. But destiny has something else in store. Varun lands in again in her life.

The movie is magical from all aspects – from starts to the end, you get caught into the magic of the movie. The proceedings keep attracting your eyes. There are twists, which surprise you and allure you. Vikramaditya Motwane and Bhavani Iyer write strapping script. Vikramaditya Motwane’s direction is catchy and first rate. Amit Trivedi’s music is spongy and goes well with the mood of the film. Editing is fine. Cinematography is fabulous.  Dialogues are attention-fetching.

Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha both get the big opportunity to display their histrionics in this film and they reveal their classes aptly. Ranveer Singh shows he is a fine actor and Sonakshi Sinha gets a meaty role for the first time and she lets the world know she can act wonderfully. Supporting cast and the rest of the starcast does nice job as well.

Final Verdict:

On the whole, Lootera is a MUST-WATCH. The film carries heart-hitting emotions and sensitivity with power-packed performances, which you will like the most. The magical era of 1953 will capture your heart.
