Barkhaa Movie Review
Cricket season is going on – World Cup final has approached and soon IPL is going to hit the scene. Therefore, it all makes the leading filmmakers to make their movie take rest, since they do not want to exhibit them to destroy the earnings. But the blank space is being filled in by the small budget movies. Now the question is whether they can run well at the box office and the moviegoers can come out to watch them leaving the cricket fever aside? Answers are ‘yes’ provided that the films carry good script and brilliant execution to entice the souls. Will Barkhaa, the low-budget movie with new faces or semi-newcomers (whatever you may name them?) work good time at the box office? Let’s check out.
Barkhaa begins with Jatin (Taaha Shah) and his parents. Jatin’s elder brother Akash (Priyanshu Chatterjee) is in the ICU battling for his life and all are much worried seeing him in this condition. Jatin gets the call from a book launch event as a final reminder to come up to be the chief guest. Since he wants to fulfill his professional commitment, he leaves for the book launch ‘AKS’. As soon as he starts reading few pages of the book at the event after inaugurating it, he finds something confusing and ambiguous in the story. He leaves the event midway and lands at the publisher’s office to learn about the author’s identity. Publisher too is unaware of the identity of the author, as the manuscript reached to the office through a courier. As it was interesting, the publisher decided to publish the book. The book launch ignites the series of flashbacks, which introduces Barkhaa (Sara Loren), with whom Jatin begins loving her at the very first sight even knowing that she is a bar singer. She has mysterious past and has no faith in humanity now. She discourages Jatin to marry her. Madhu (Shweta Pandit) is the only person in her life, she trusts a lot. After repeated warnings from Barkhaa, Jatin continues to propose her even after knowing that she is a single mother of a child. Jatin takes Barkhaa to introduce her to his family. But his father (Puneet Isaar) disapproves her. Akash, when sees Barkhaa, storms away. Barkhaa too goes missing. What happens then is what forms the rest of the story.
Shadaab Mirza makes his directorial debut with this film. The execution is simply a big failure. Same is the case with Shadaab Mirza and Lawrence John’s script that is poor and carries many a flaws. Editing needed to be crispier. Cinematography is okay. Music is flat.
Sara Loren, the main character of this film, shows nothing great at all. She needs to grasp over facial expressions. Acting skills are still far away from her hands, which she needs to catch in order to stay in Bollywood industry. Small budget movies open the avenues for leading banners if you have talents – so, show them otherwise get glued to low budget flicks. Taaha Shah is poor in his acting prowess. Priyanshu Chatterjee does not impress. Puneet Issar, the veteran, does not show his class. Rest of the cast is pretty ordinary.
Final Verdict:
On the whole, Barkhaa is a poor show all the way. Stay back at home and watch something nice on television or play a DVD instead.
