Veteran Bollywood star Shashi Kapoor dies of kidney problems at 79 on Monday, 4th December 2017 in Mumbai

Bollywood star Shashi Kapoor dies at the age of 79, the news was confirmed by his actor nephew Randhir Kapoor. Talking to the media, Randhir made it confirm that the veteran actor took his last breath in Mumbai on Monday after several years of kidney problems. The celebrated legendry actor Shashi appeared in a number of Bollywood and Merchant Ivory movies. He not only proved his mettle in Bollywood but also in international cinema. He was the son of the legendary actor late Prithviraj Kapoor (Mughal-E-Azam fame), and the brother of the showman late Raj Kapoor and late Shammi Kapoor.
Kapoor’s film career started in 1940s and 1950s when he did child artist roles in the films – Aag and Awaara, playing his elder brother Raj Kapoor’s child roles. Shashi’s first leading role was in Yash Chopra’s 1961 film ‘Dharmputra’ that won many awards. Later he began becoming the part of Merchant Ivory films. His most famous Bollywood films include Jaanwar Aur Insaan (1972), Kabhi Kabhi (1976), Trishul (1978), Trishna (1979) and Kaala Patthar (1979).
Shashi Kapoor married actress Jennifer Kendal in 1958. Kapoor dropped working in movies in mid 80s when his wife died of cancer in 1984. But he made appearances in international films like Ismail Merchant’s 1993 movie ‘In Custody’ and Jamil Dehlvi’s 1998 film on the founder of Pakistan ‘Jinnah’, which did tremendous business at the box office.
Shashi Kapoor is survived by three children – two sons Kunal and Karan, and one daughter Sanjana.
