Fukrey (2013) Movie Review is dished out and you may now read on to learn whether the film is worth-watching or it needs to be skipped. Let’s read on.
Farhan Akhtar and his business partner Ritesh Sidhwani churn out Fukrey under their banner Excel Entertainment. The movie is about the youngsters and their friendship. Excel Entertainment has made movies on the subject of friendship in the past and they worked big time. Now the banner comes up once again with the same subject but the plot is totally new.
Fukrey talks about today’s youth as to how they think and act in life. More importantly as to how they keep planning to take the shortcuts in life. The story is novel and this is what makes the movie powerful because novelty is what majority of today’s Bollywood movies lack in. On friendship’s subjects and the friendship among the youngsters’ subject, we have watched a number of movies and often the Bollywood filmmakers come up with the same idea. But the strapping and the important thing about Fukrey is that it carries the novelty, which often the movies of this kind lack in.
Mrighdeep Singh Lamba directs this venture. The alluring thing about the film is the setting in North India that captures the hearts. Normally when the movies with the settings in Delhi are made, they attract the eyes provided that they are made with care and perfection. The films like Khosla Ka Ghosla, Do Dooni Chaar and few others made in the same settings have played magic with the viewers. Now Mrighdeep Singh Lamba’s Fukrey is all set to spell magic with the audiences.
The movie talks about four youngsters and their dreams and aspirations to make it big in life. For this, they are ready with the shortcuts. Choocha (Varun Sharma) and Hunny (Pulkit Samrat) are two youngsters. Both are gifted with a unique kind of potential that Choocha dreams and Hunny makes a combination with a lottery number. This way they win easy money. Two other youngsters – Lali (Manjot Singh) and Zafar (Ali Fazal) too come up to join their bandwagon to fulfill their desires in life. Things turn chaotic when they take a loan from a female gangster Bholi Punjaban (Richa Chadda).
The movie carries good humor to enjoy with. The viewers thoroughly enjoy the soft humor and amuse from tip to toe. There are hardly any dull moments in the narrative except towards the concluding part. The script seems somewhat lengthy towards the end and this is the only flaw of the film otherwise the film is a great joyride.
The story and screenplay both have been penned with conviction and care. Vipul Vig and the director of the film Mrighdeep Singh Lamba deserve the credit for the same. Direction is superlative. Cinematography is fabulous. The locales of old Delhi have been captured with brilliance. Editing is just about okay. Music is average.
All the four youngsters in the movie play the characters brilliantly. They are the true life of the film. Pulkit Samrat, Varun Sharma, Manjot Singh and Ali Fazal – all are superb. Richa Chadda is fantastic. Rest of the cast is great to watch as well.
Final Verdict:
Fukrey is a recommended movie. Watch it to get lured with the novelty (which is hardly seen in today’s Hindi movies), story, good humor and classy performances by the leading stars.
