Gabbar is Back Film StillGabbar is Back Movie Review

Finally the D-Day comes for Gabbar is Back – the movie that has been making quite big waves in the media and among the moviegoers. The much-awaited and well-promoted movie hits the screens today. A number of movies have been made on the iconic Sholay so far and many too have been made on the iconic character of Gabbar. The latest offering too walks on the same lines. Will this flick and Akshay Kumar too capture the hearts of the cinema lovers like the iconic Gabbar had done in 1975 or will it go flat? Let’s review it.

Aditya (Akshay Kumar) is a Professor at National College. He is on a mission to instill the sense of hope and purpose among the college students, he teaches. Apart from his teacher’s job, Aditya is also on a mission to eliminate the corruption from the society. He works under the name of Gabbar with his team. The team of Gabbar generates fear among the corrupts – Gabbar and his team members want the corruption to get eliminated from all walks of life, but in true systematic manners. Aditya also romances with Devaki (Shruti Haasan). He has also a past in which he had a true romantic relationship with his wife (played by Kareena Kapoor). A tragedy struck between the two due to Digvijay Patil (Suman Talwar). Police force is unable to track Gabbar. But there is a man in the force called Sadhu (Sunil Grover) who gets the clues about Gabbar. But no one is ready to believe him, as he is a driver and all do not take him seriously. Enters a top cop into the scene who pulls his socks up to grab Gabbar, he supports Sadhu to arrest Gabbar. What happens then is what forms the rest of the story.

Gabbar is Back Film Still-01

South filmmaker Krish’s Bollywood debut Gabbar is Back is an official remake of Tamil hit Ramanaa. Bollywood version too carries the similar taste of south movies – exaggerated action, ear-spoiling background score, loud dialogues, weird humor and the likes. Krish, as a director, has done marvelous job by executing the flick marvelously on screen. A. R. Murugadoss’s story is brilliant. Rajat Aroraa’s screenplay carries flaws, but they seem okay when you develop an interest with the film. The pin-pointing one is the slow pace of first half. The dialogues by Rajat Aroraa are okay and appeal at some places. Editing is fine. Cinematography by Nirav Shah is average. Music is average. Only Teri Meri Kahaani works big time. But for the front benchers and the single screen audiences, Kundi Naa Khadkao Raja is really appealing.

Among the performances, Akshay Kumar is the top scorer. He has performed the Gabbar’s iconic character luminously and bravely. Akshay has now returned to action genre with aplomb. Shruti Haasan looks gorgeous, but at places irritates. Sunil Grover is fantastic. Rest of the cast is fine.

Gabbar is Back Movie Review

Final Verdict:

On the whole, Gabbar is Back is not what we all were expecting, rather it is an average extravaganza that will need to rely upon heavily on word of mouth (which presently seems to be into its favor due to hefty promotions). The long weekend can bring brawny business, but the film might suffer in weekdays. In short, grab it to get entertained.
