Today tow horror movies released – Ragini MMS 2 and Gang of Ghosts. But the interesting thing is that both the movies have additional flavors to attract the audiences and to be different. Ragini MMS 2 is horror plus erotica and Gang of Ghosts is scary but is more comic. Although Ragini MMS 2 is going to spell magic with the viewers from all aspects since it is a brilliantly made film with heavy dose of skin-show and scares, Gang of Ghosts seems to be a disaster. Let’s learn later in the review.

Gang of Ghosts is a remake of a successful Bengali movie ‘Bhooter Bhabishyat (2012)’. Satish Kaushik directs the Hindi remake of the film. With a concept of horror film, scary moments and atmosphere comes into mind. But this outing is a comic caper with wacky characters though a ghost concept is there. Satish makes differences to suit the Hindi audiences, but the overall concept goes like the original.

Royal Mansion is a haunted place that is rented out to a film crew for shooting. During the filming, the heroine gets fainted after she spots a ghost in the mirror. The filmmaker (Parambrata) hears scary tale from the writer (Sharman Joshi) about the mansion.

Comedy these days is quite popular in Hindi cinema industry and many filmmakers have been making fabulous comic capers and production houses been making good business. But not all get successful in this genre. Reason – the inability of the art and craft. Satish Kaushik is a man who knows the art of comedy. But this time around, he fails to generate the laughs the audiences are set to extract from this venture. The film carries funny parts, but they are just few. Also the director seems to be loosening the grip on the execution at times in the proceedings. The finale is marvelous. But what to get from it, when the entire venture goes astray.

Film lacks much in scripting and direction also. Music is simply boring. The ample dose of songs in the narrative further spoils the film. There is no song that is hummable. Editing is just about okay. Cinematography is first rate.

Among the characters, Anupam Kher does a brilliant job. Sharman Joshi is average. Saurabh Shukla is excellent. Parambrata is fine. Mahie Gill does well. Meera Chopra is average. Jackie Shroff is wasted. Rest of the cast is average.

Final Verdict:

Gang of Ghosts is a baldy made film that has funny moments, but a bit.
