Light-hearted rom-com with the dose of fun movies – we have been watching on Bollywood front for ages and this genre Bollywood has developed tremendously with the touches of modern era’s requirements in recent past. Many of the movies of this genre have worked big time. Even Saif Ali Khan’s Cocktail had done brilliance two years back. This time again, Saif returns to silver screen with another rom-com ‘Happy Ending’ that has been going great with full dose of promotions. Saif desperately needs a hit after the disasters of Bullet Raja and Humshakals. Let’s wait to see if he succeeds this time around.
The film begins with the character of Kareena Kapoor, who plays cameo in this flick, who confesses her love feelings to Yudi (Saif Ali Khan), an author. Yudi does not respond to her love feelings. Resultantly, she shows him the middle finger and goes out of his life. Now enters Vishaka (Kalki Koechlin), a dentist, who starts loving him passionately. Her passion for him goes her to install a app on her mobile called ‘Nospace’ that keeps tracking his whereabouts. But Yudi is unmoved and feels nothing for her. There are two people in his life, whom he consider the most and goes to them whenever he finds him in troubles. They include his ex-girlfriend Divya (Preity Zinta) and best buddy Montu (Ranveer Shorey). Yudi has consumed his money he had made from his book. Now he wants to return to writing once again. But he does not get hired by the publishing company he once worked with since it has hired a gorgeous lady writer Aanchal (Ileana D’Cruz). Her romantic novels are much in demand all the time. Yudi finally gets an offer to write a script for the famed actor Armaan (Govinda). Armaanji wants to overcome multiplexes now after enjoying success in single screens. Now Yudi befriends Aanchal. Both spend quality time together. Aanchal is clear about her relationship with Yudi, but it is he who lost his heart to her. He gathers the courage to confess his feelings. What happens next is what forms the climax of the film.
Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, the duo is quite popular for their previous directed ventures such as 99, Shor in the City and Go Goa Gone, have come back with this film. The direction is fine and appeals. The story is appealing. But the film lacks a bit in script since it makes the thing complicated and boring right in the middle. The first half is really smooth and lets you grab true enjoyment whereas the second half gets boring at places. The film also reminds us of the traces of Cocktail. Editing is average. Cinematography is eye-candy. Music by Sachin-Jigar is catchy. The picks of the lot are definitely Paaji Tussi and G Phaadke.
Saif Ali Khan is simply brilliant in his role. He completely fits to his character. The man shows his brilliance in acting prowess. After a hiatus, he got the role he truly fits into and he excels superbly. It is Saif’s outing all the way. Ileana D’Cruz is fantastic to watch. Kalki Koechlin does a bravura job. Kareena Kapoor plays a brilliant cameo. Govinda shows his class. The veteran actor should have given more scope in this film. Ranveer Shoery is a treat to watch. Preity Zinta is gorgeous and acts luminously. Rest of the cast is fine also.
Final Verdict:
On the whole, Happy Ending is a well-made brilliant rom-com that will leave you happy by the time you come out of theaters.
