Eventually the first Hindi movie of 2015 released today. Tevar was being awaited and today it came out in theaters. Now the question is that whether it will make a mark or just go flat or turn out to be average. Let’s analyze. Amit Ravindernath makes his directorial debut with this flick. Tevar is the official remake of the Telugu movie ‘Okkadu’ (2003) starring Mahesh Babu and Bhoomika Chawla.

The promos and the trailers of the film have already generated quite a good amount of interest quotient among the moviegoers. The track ‘Superman’ and the item number starring Shruti Haasan and Arjun Kapoor have become much popular among the cinema lovers. But what about the movie itself is what is going to be reviewed here.

Tevar talks about Agra based Ghanshyam aka Pintoo Shukla (Arjun Kapoor), the son of an IPS Officer Satyapal (Raj Babbar). He is a careless and carefree guy by nature, but has a heart of gold. Radhika Mishra (Sonakshi Sinha) is Mahesh Mishra’s sister who is a television journalist. His honest reporting irks Bahubali Gajendra Singh (Manoj Bajpayee) who is the brother of a politician Mahendra Singh (Rajesh Sharma). By the time Gajendra stumbles upon Radhika, he loses his heart to her. He plans to propose her and then reaches to her college where he proposes her at gunpoint. When she refuses him, he kills her brother. Then, Radhika’s parents decide to send her to the US so that she can be protected from Gajendra. Gajendra tries to take her away forcefully. Enters Pintoo into the scene and accidently helps her by saving her from Gajendra. From there on, Ganjendra and his men are after both of them. What happens next is what forms the rest of the story.

The first half of the film makes a good and interesting viewing. Amit Ravindernath Sharma is a good storyteller and it is vivid from his direction. Story is not new at all. You have watched this type of story millions of time on Hindi screen. The film lacks in story mainly. Screenplay by Amit Ravindernath Sharma is average. The second half is not that gripping and impressive as the first one was. Music is average. Only two tracks work fine – Superman and the item number featuring Shruti Haasan. Editing is okay. Cinematography is appealing.

Arjun Kapoor does the fine job as a carefree and careless guy. He shows his class and reveals he is here to stay with conviction. Manoj Bajpayee is a wonderful actor – we all know it well and this time he proves his mettle in a villainous role with quite aplomb. Raj Babbar is fine. Rest of the cast is splendid to watch.

Final Verdict:

On the whole, Tevar is an entertaining film but lacks in one department mainly i.e. story. Otherwise, it is a nice cinematic experience.
