Rating: 1 out of 5 stars (1 / 5)

Rensil D’Silva’s Ungli emerges on theaters today. The film from the word ‘go’ is a below average flick almost from all aspects. Emraan Hashmi, who once ruled the cinema with hits after hits, seems to be losing his grip over the masses. Well, he will seriously have to look into this matter, as he is really a fine actor apart from his fame for on screen smooches, etc. Where, we witness unique subjects in today’s scenario of Bollywood, we also see the old subjects being used quite often in films. Ungli is such an effort to bring the old wine into a new bottle. But this old wine has no taste for the masses at all.

Ungli is all about the corruption and the corrupt system of society. You have witnessed endless amount of movies on Hindi screen since the time the Bollywood has started off. Ungli unzips with an old man waiting at the Pension Office with his younger daughter where they get bullied by the babus out there. The old man gets cardiac arrest and is rushed to the hospital where his daughter tells the whole story to the doctor. Maya (Kangna Ranaut) hears her story, as she works at the hospital. She then informs the whole incident to her friends Abhay 9Randeep Hooda), Kaleem (Angad Bedi) and Goti (Neil Bhoopalam). They all now have their first case in hand – the Ungli Gang is now on its way to solve its first case. The kidnap the babus while covering up their faces with masks. They strap the babus with time bombs and ask them to run in the empty stadium. Ungli Gang informs the media and the police for the same. Now their actions are projected in the media and all channels. They instantly turn out to be famous. Police now come into action and Police Commissioner (Raza Murad) calls Ashok Kale (Sanjay Dutt) to solve this case. Ungli Gang is against the corrupts and evils of the society – they put the videos of the corrupts being punished by them on the Internet, masses are in their favor. Ashok fails to solve this case. He calls another Police Officer Nikhil (Emraan Hashmi) to solve this case. He enters into the gang being part of them. But soon he realizes that the gang is not wrong. What happens next is what forms the climax.

The direction is fine. The main culprits are old story and the script, which lacks freshness and carries many faults – the main being the badly executed and written second half, which is also stretched. First half is interesting. Story and script too are credited by Rensil D’Silva. Music is below average. Editing is below the mark. Cinematography is just about okay.

Emraan Hashmi does not impress this time. He fails to generate his oomph factor and showcase his brilliant acting skills. Sanjay Dutt is fine to watch. Kangna Ranaut is effective. Rest of the cast is just passable.

Final Verdict:

On the whole, Ungli is a waste of time and money. Stay back at home and enjoy something else of television.
