Politics is the central topic in India these days, as the elections are going to happen. A lot is being discussed on the topic in the media and everywhere. The film with a backdrop of politics ‘Youngistaan’ is an absolute right time to release. It’s really an intelligent decision by the makers. Directed by the first-time director Syed Ahmad Afzal, the film is not a out and out political drama with loads of action rather it is light take on politics with the love story of a young politician and how does he balance the two businesses of his life?
Jackky Bhagnani has been brought in as the young politician who wants to bring in the change in the present scenario of Indian politics.
Abhimanyu (Jackky Bhagnani) lives in Japan with his girlfriend Anvi (Neha Sharma). He returns to India when his father Prime Minister of India Dashrath Kaul (Boman Irani) gets seriously ill. Post his father’s demise, the senior leadership of the party makes the decision to make Abhimanyu the Prime Minister of India for the interim period. Anvi is against Abhimanyu’s decision to become the PM of the country. Soon media comes to know Abhimanyu’s live in relationship with his girlfriend and the saucy stories begin churning out in the media. How does he balance between his political and love life is what Youngistaan offers the viewers.
The story in interesting and the script carries some notable faults, which are not ignorable at all such as why the girlfriend is against lover’s decision to join the politics – there is no valid reason at all and why the two cannot tie the knot when their live-in relationship becomes the saucy talk of the gossips?
Music is average. Editing is fine. Cinematography is okay. Dialogues are interesting. Direction is fantastic. Jackky Bhagnani impresses with his power-packed role of a young politician. It is his best performance till date. Neha Sharma looks stunning and acts well. Boman Irani is first-rate. Late Farooq Shaikh impresses with his marvelous piece of acting. Rest of the cast is fine also.
Final Verdict:
On the whole, Youngistaan makes a nice watch. Had the script been written with more care, the impact would have been far more brilliant.
