Veena Malik sentenced to 26 years in jail – this is what has started trending over the web. This is what happened that an anti-terrorism court in Pakistan has announced the sentence of 26 years in prison to the famous actress Veena Malik, her husband Asad Bashir Khattak, Shaista Lodhi and the owner of Jang Group of Publications and Geo TV for airing blasphemous contents on a TV show on the channel.
The court in Gilgit-Baltistan has issued the orders of arresting Mir Shakeel Ur Rehman. As per the reports, the court has announced the jail term for Shaista Lodhi (who had hosted the show ‘Utho Jago Pakistan, which aired blasphemous contents during the program), Veena Malik and her husband Asad.
While the verdict was being announced earlier today on Tuesday, 26th November, none of the accused was present in the court. The reports further reveal that all four convicts have been imposed to pay the penalty of 1.3 million Pakistani rupees (around $12,500) each. All of them have been awarded the right to appeal against this judgment.
Media reports also say that the court issued the orders to the local administration for seizing the properties of all of these four convicts if they did not surrender. None of them is in Pakistan, as they all are reportedly abroad.
