Shootout at Wadala movie review is out now, as it was being much awaited by the cinegoers. The film releases today starring the likes of John Abraham, Anil Kapoor, Tusshar Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut and others. Let’s read on the review by Film Critic Goher Iqbal Punn.
Bollywood industry is quite familiar with the gangster movies and the trend of making the films on the subjects of gangsters is not new rather we have been watching the same on celluloid since long time back. Many prominent filmmakers have attempted these kinds of movies and they ran pretty well at the box office. Ram Gopal Verma is the leading filmmaker who often churns out films on gangster subjects. If the subject is powerful, script is well-written and direction is brilliant, the films of these kinds soar sky high. We have the successful examples in the recent past such as Shootout at Lokhandwala and Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, etc.
Sanjay Gupta’s Shootout at Wadala is based on a book ‘Dongri to Dubai’. The film is based on the 70s and 80s eras and the life of a Mumbai gangster Manya Surve.
The utter essence of the book is same in the film but the director makes it sure that he makes the film lively and not boring with the dry subject of a gangster. He also makes it fictionalized to make the product tasty for the viewers. The film’s utter focus is on the gangster Manya Surve. Shootout at Wadala tells his story, his rise, his dominance on the crime world and then his death.
The film tells the story of Manya (John Abraham). He gets caught in a murder case and he gets the sentence of life imprisonment. But he escapes from the prison and returns to Mumbai where he forms his gang of criminals.
The attention-grabbing thing about the plot is that the film pours light on the hidden aspects of this gangster’s life such as his love interest (played by Kangana Ranaut). The story is powerful and the script of the film is the real life and backbone of the movie. From the opening reel to the climax, you get glued to the screen with open eyes. The trio of Sanjay Gupta, Sanjay Bhatia and Abhijeet Deshpande makes the script attention-fetching and interesting for the viewers. Execution of the script on celluloid is simply magical. Sanjay Gupta does the brilliant job. Action, as it is required much attention in these kinds of subjects, has been choreographed with class and mastery. Allan Amin deserves full marks for the action. Dialogue of the film work big time and Milap Milan Zaveri write them brilliantly. Sameer Arya’s cinematography is magnum opus.
The music of the film is really spongy and mellifluous. Anu Malik and other musicians have done fabulous job. The item songs of the movie are the picks of the lot – Babli Badmaash (picturized on Priyanka Chopra) and Laila (picturized on Sunny Leone). Even another item song picturised on Sophie Choudhary ‘Aala Re Aala’ too loots the hearts. All three hot and curvy women allure the souls.
John Abraham lets the masses know that he is a class in every sense of the word by enacting the character of the Mumbai gangster Manya Surve. He shows his acting prowess with gusto and conviction. He lets all of us know that he can do every type of role with super ease. Anil Kapoor is really fantastic. Manoj Bajpayee shows his usual form and class. Tusshar Kapoor enacts the part skillfully. Kangana Ranaut performs the role of John’s love interest brilliantly. She is a fine actress. Rest of the cast is fine as well.
Final Verdict:
In a capsule, Shootout at Wadala is a well-made and attention-fetching film. With power-packed performances, brilliant script, marvelous execution and catchy music, the movie is bound to stay with you. MUST WATCH!
