Aashiqui 2 (2013) Movie Review, the much-awaited one, is dished out for the viewers. The movie review is ready and you can read it below.
Aashiqui 2, the sequel to Mahesh Bhatt’s romantic musical ‘Aashiqui’ (1990), is actually ‘not’ a sequel to the earlier film. It is a contemporary story with no relevance to the 90s’ flick. The title has been fetched in just to grab the market since it is a trade gimmick to get the people into theaters. And obviously the trick will work no matter if the film carries the newcomers to play the leading roles. Well, two things are nonetheless same in the sequel and they are the romance and music. Mohit Suri directs this musical which is laced with utter dose of romance, emotions, drama and soothing music to spell magic with the viewers’ souls.
Aashiqui 2 has hardly any dull moments where you feel exhausted and bored. The script, execution, performances to the music – everything is attention-fetching and heart-warming. Aashiqui (1990) had worked big time because of its saccharine and mellifluous evergreen music, romance and emotions. Mohit too did the fabulous job to bring in the same quotient in Aashiqui 2 (2013).
Since second installment bears no resemblance to the original, it does borrow plot from 1973 Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s classic Abhimaan starring Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bhaduri (Jaya Bachchan) in main roles. In Aashiqui 2, both leading characters are singers like in Abhimaan and the hero is a leading singer who gets impressed with the voice of an aspiring songstress and takes the responsibility to introduce her in the industry like Abhimaan. Apart from borrowing the plot, the fact remains the film is a power-packed musical-romantic extravaganza which will surely keep the audiences entertained thoroughly.
Aashiqui 2 talks about the journey of a young couple and the turmoil emerged in their lives. Rahul (Aditya Roy Kapur) is a leading singer. He gets impressed with the mellifluous voice of Aarohi (Shraddha Kapoor), who is an aspiring singer. He takes the responsibility of introducing her to the music industry. He builds Aarohi’s confidence and arranges her audition with a music giant (Mahesh Thakur). Soon both start loving each other. Aarohi’s singing career then starts soaring sky-high whereas Rahul’s career begins witnessing fall. She decides to leave her singing career to stay with Rahul.
Well, after reading the story, Abhimaan must have come to your mind. If you have not seen 73’s classic yet, watch it and you will agree with me. But as mentioned earlier, apart from the plot’s borrowing, the film is strapping due to the magically arranged music, scripting, direction and performances.
Shagufta Rafique deserves distinction marks for writing the script and dialogues for the film. Mohit Suri injects true romance in the film, which is not found in today’s Hindi movies. Suri has shown the emotions and drama with great aplomb. His execution deserves brawny points. Cinematography by Vishnu Rao is classy and top notch. Editing is fine.
Music is the actual life of the film. Like the original, Aashiqui 2 carries the soothing and melodic music. Tum Hi Ho and Bhula Dena are the ones which have been playing magic with the listeners.
Aditya Raoy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor have appeared in Hindi movies previously. So, they are not new to the camera. But with Aashiqui 2, they get real projection. Aditya Raoy Kapur does brilliance with the character. He slips into the role with super ease. Shraddha Kapoor displays her histrionics with brilliance. She is a fine actress and can really go long in Bollywood. Shaad Randhawa is fine. Mahesh Thakur is wonderful to watch. Rest of the starcast does good job as well.
Aashiqui 2 is a true musical and romantic journey which the cinegoers will surely like to be with. With strapping script, mellifluous music, brilliant direction and power-packed performances – the film is bound to churn out money at the box office.
