Rating: 2.5 out of 5 stars (2.5 / 5)

Sequels have started being made in plenty in Bollywood for last few years. Well, this is trend has gathered momentum due to the success ratio attached to the business of sequel. Yes, sequels have been generating quite a big income for the film-makers and when they earn handsome from the sequels, then why to stop using the formula of making sequels? Bhoothnath Returns to is the sequel of Bhoothnath (2008). After quite a long time, the sequel to Bhoothnath has been made.

Bhoothnath Returns does not start from where the first part had ended up. The director has tried his level best to make the sequel fresh and almost everything on board is utterly fresh to endow the viewer a feeling of novelty.

Nitesh Tiwari this time around directs this flick. The best thing about Bhoothnath Returns is the message of the importance of our vote and the focus on the corrupt politician.

The story unzips with Bhoothnath (Amitabh Bachchan) who returns to the world of Bhoots where he is treated with taunts from the ghosts about his being bullied by a child on earth. Now Bhoothnath plans to return to the earth to scare the kids. He bumps into Akhrot (Parth Bhalerao) – a kid on the slum. He can see Bhoothnath. Both help each other and the friendship bond develops between the two. Both stand against the most corrupt and powerful politician Bhau (Boman Irani).

The plot in really interesting and captures the attention. The script turns out weak post interval portion. The first half is simply entertaining with humor quotient and pleasurable things. But once the movie lands into post interval portion, it turns out to be serious – entertainment and humor go away all of a sudden. The film has been targeted as family entertainer and entertainment is what this film is apparently all about. It is basically a kids movie and when the kids are given the content which is for the elders, they would be disappointed. Script (post interval portion) spoils all the pleasures attained in the first half. Music is fine, but there is no chartbuster stuff in the album.

Amitabh Bachchan needs no words of praises at all. His illustrious long career consists of tremendous amount of praise for his work. He is a Bollywood legend and whenever he comes on screen, he leaves no stone unturned to impress his audience. This time again, he steals the show with his remarkable brilliant performance as Bhoothnath. The show-stealer is the kid of the movie – Parth Bhalerao. He enacts with such brilliance that you start loving this kid. Boman Irani is superlative. Shah Rukh Khan and Ranbir Kapoor’s cameos are fine. Rest of the cast is nice to watch also.

Final Verdict:

On the whole, Bhoothnath Returns is mind blowing till the first-half. Post Interval portion, it turns out to be a pleasure-spoiler. The main culprit is ‘Script’ otherwise the film carries brilliant performances and dexterous direction to capture your eyes.
