Dharma Productions and Phantom in other words Karan Johar and Anurag Kashyup join hands to churn out this film. The two prominent names of the film industry come up to produce Hasee Toh Phasee. Well, the expectations already shoot to heights. One also expects the movie to be a different altogether and expectations to watch a fresher and boisterous product on screen too ooze out. Movie releases a week before Valentine’s Day. The love factor too is expected from the movie. In short, Hasee Toh Phasee carries it all.
The storyline revolves around the two individuals – insubordinate Meeta (Parineeti Chopra) and impish Nikhil (Sidharth Malhotra). Both try hard to fit into their respective families. Both stumble upon each other on the occasion of Meeta’s sister Diksha’s marriage ceremony and Nikhil finds his love Karishma (Adah Sharma) there, who is their other sister. Years pass by and then the days come when both Nikhil and Karishma are busy with the preparations of their wedding. Then Meeta retunes to Mumbai after spending years away from her home. It is only Karishma in the family who knows that Meeta is back. Karishma asks her husband to be Nikhil to find an accommodation for her away from the home. Nikhil lets Meeta stay at his home with his parents (Sharat Saxena and Neena Kulkarni). The attraction and love towards each other gradually start happening between Meeta and Nikhil. Now opposites get attracted to each other and love gushes out.
Well, the concept and the story are not novel at all. It sounds repetitive. The makers have gone with the tried and tested formula of a romantic comedy. But what matters the most and makes this rom-com attractive and heart-hitting is that it carries interest quotient to the fullest that gels well with the viewers. The script, despite the few flaws, is strapping and attention-fetching. Harshavardhan Kulkarni has done the exceptional job in writing. Debutante director Vinil Mathew does outstanding job by making the viewers glued to the screens till the final reel. The best thing is the viewers carry the movie back home. Emotional sequences have been captured with super brilliance. The liveliness and fresher feel throughout the film make it distinctive and heart-warming.
There are flaws in the narrative like the first half at times turns out to be sluggish. Music of the film is another plus point. Vishal-Shekhar score the soothing piece of music. The tracks like Machala, Shake It Like Shammi and Drama Queen are simply fantastic. Cinematography is first rate.
Sidharth Malhotra shows that he is a brilliant performer. It is the initial stage of his career and he has a long way to go. He will soon be among the leading brigade of Bollywood actors. Parineeti Chopra, well, there are no words about her acting prowess. She is lively, boisterous and brilliant. She steals the show in this flick with splendid acting job. Sharat Saxena is fine. Neena Kulkarni is brilliant. Rest of the cast too fits the bill.
On the whole, Hasee Toh Phasee is a lively and fresh movie. A Must-Watch.
