Priyanka Chopra’s Mary Kom is dished out eventually. The movie has well been in news since the outset. Bollywood’s current trend is making movies on biopic and sports personalities – well, they are being liked to watch and this is the reason that the trend is getting strength. Mary Kom too walks on the same path, as it is a biopic of a sports personality – a boxing champion from Manipur.
Omung Kumar’s Mary Kom tells the story of the boxing champion who makes India proud on the map of the world. The movie shows the hardships, Mary Kom faces throughout her journey to achieve her passion for the sport.
The film begins with pregnant Mary Kom (Priyanka Chopra) and her supportive husband Onler Kom (Darshan Kumar). The movie unzips the problems they both face to ensure the safest delivery of Mary during the curfew in the area. The movie also shows the flashback events of the boxer, as to how the making of the international boxer took place in presence of the strict father and her passion for the sport of ring. Viewers get more emotional when Mary opts for the sports instead of a delightful life with her family. She gets training from her coach Narjit Singh (Sunil Thapa). The combo of talents of Mary and the wonderful training of the coach takes Mary to win international competitions. Life lands at problems when Mary gets married despite her coach’s opposition. She says goodbye to the sport and then begins the life of a commoner where she has to apply for jobs and she gets a job of hawaldar. She then decides to make a comeback to boxing. What happens next is what Mary Kom is all about.
Omung Kumar is a brilliant story teller. His execution of the subject on screen is simply awesome, as he makes the viewer to get glued to the screen throughout. Saiwyn Quadras does brawny points for luminous story and screenplay. Dialogues are catchy. Editing by Sanjay Leela Bhansali is wonderful. Music by Sashi Suman and Shivam is strictly below average. Cinematography by Kelko Nakahara is awesome and eye-candy.
Priyanka Chopra does a bravura performance. She delivers the goods splendidly in an author-backed role. Darshan Kumar is simply brilliant. Sunil Thapa is effective. Others too deliver fine performances.
Final Verdict:
On the whole, Mary Kom is a worthwhile biopic, which deserves to be watched. It holds attention and can surely bring awards for the actress called ‘Priyanka Chopra’ at coming awards’ functions. Wait for more awards for other categories as well. Also read Mary Kom opening occupancy report.
