David Dhawan is a name famous for making masalathons – his long careers spans over the masala entertainers, which always made the viewers laugh and enjoy. David’s comedies with Govinda, Sanjay Dutt, Salman Khan and Anil Kapoor are what still the moviegoers would love to enjoy with. They are still fresh and make a pleasurable viewing. Making a comedy is not a cup of tea for everyone, the apt knowledge and skills of the art and craft are required and David Dhawan is gifted with these qualities. Earlier in his career, he has worked with the big names of the industry, this time he teams up with none other than his son Varun Dhawan, a newcomer in the industry. This is Varun’s second outing after Student of the Year.
As the trend of churning out remakes of south movies in Bollywood industry has gathered quite a good strength, Main Tera Hero too is a remake of a successful Telugu movie Kandireega (2011).
Seenu (Varun Dhawan) is not a good student. His father (Manoj Pahwa) tells him that his friends emerge toppers in their studies and they are enrolled in various colleges and universities. Seenu now wants to make his parents proud by getting enrolled in a university. At the university, he bumps into Sunaina (Ileana D’ Cruz) and falls for her – it’s a love at first sight. A police officer Angad (Arunoday Singh) too loves her and wants to marry her against her wish. He challenges Angad that he would make her fall for him and with luck in his hands, he wins her within just three days. But soon, Sunaina is abducted by a don (Anupam Kher) who is in Bangkok. Don’s daughter Ayesha (Nargis Fakhri), who Seenu has saved from the eve-teasers, loves Seenu. Now what will happen to Seenu when both girls love him?
Main Tera Hero is packed with all the spices required to make a masala entertainer. It’s a pure David Dhawan type of entertainer. There is nothing new in this film. If you are going to watch it for novelty, then mind it, it doesn’t offer any, but it offers you laughs and entertainment in plenty. And this is what the focus is of the movie, in which David Dhawan has succeeded well.
Tushar Hiranandani, the writer, has penned the story and screenplay with aplomb making it apt for the taste of Hindi audiences. The film does not get you bored even for a moment. Admit, post interval portion carries few episodes which spoil the pleasures (such as post interval length and the climax), but overall product is yummy and entertaining. Milap Zaveri’s dialogues are catchy and heart-hitting. David Dhawan gets the viewers glued to the screen from the opening reels to the end with such mastery and expertise in which he is veteran and expert. Her presents Varun marvelously on screen letting him show his chest and muscles apart from making the viewers get entertained fully with his acts.
Music by Sajid-Wajid is catchy and has already impressed the listeners. The songs like Palat and Shanivaar Raati have already made brilliant on charts.
Varun Dhawan is a treat to watch. He shows his terrific form in this film. The guy has strapping potential to grow as a giant star. Ileana D’ Cruz enacts her part with conviction. Nargis Fakhri looks gorgeous, stunning and glamorous. She needs to work on her expressions. Once she is done, no one can stop her joining the leading brigade of Bollywood heroines. Anupam Kher is fabulous and brilliant in his role. Saurabh Shukla is first-rate. Arunoday Singh is fine. Manoj Pahwa does well. Rajpal Yadav entertains as usual. Shakti Kapoor does not get good scope. Rest of the cast is fine also.
Final Verdict:
Main Tera Hero is a brilliant entertainer packed with wacky humor and power-packed performances. It’s all set to make good money at the box office.
